Enhancing my CPU performance
Enhancing my CPU performance
I'm checking out an Intel i7 3770 K now. I spotted an i7 8700 K on eBay for 220€—what do you think? Should I upgrade? Also, someone suggest a budget-friendly mainboard? My setup includes a GTX 1070, two 4GB RAM sticks, a GSKILL DDR4, and a Samsung 1000 GB SSD. I have a 620W PSU, the i7, and old HDDs.
Why do you need to upgrade? that CPU should still be fine for 90+fps in the average game Also just buy a Ryzen 5 3600, or potentially wait for Ryzen 4000 which isn't too far away. What's your total budget/country?
In Austria I found a solid 3DMark performance with about 13 FPS. I tend to avoid Ryzen chips (personal reasons) and have a budget of 220€ for the CPU and roughly 80€ for a motherboard. I enjoy pushing overclocks.
But are the real-world results okay? Benchmarks aren't the only thing to consider, especially if it's about CPU performance or graphics tasks. A Ryzen 3000 offers comparable speed at a lower price and comes with a soldered IHS that helps keep temperatures down in the 10C-15C range right out of the box.
The performance might be decent, but this machine often faces 4-5 bluescreens within two hours, frequent restarts and crashes during intense games like Cod Mw, and even freezes while playing Minecraft or CS:GO. It really isn’t great. Regarding the Amd Ryzen 5 3600x at 220€—it’s a reasonable choice if you’re looking for something solid.
I recently completed a build for a friend using the R5 3600x and it performed exceptionally well. I strongly suggest giving it a try. As previously noted, you’ll likely need a new MOBO and probably some additional RAM. If your setup doesn’t include an AMD mount for the CPU cooler, you should be fine since the 3600x comes with a solid enough cooler until you can upgrade. The advantage of AMD’s AM4 socket is the variety of motherboards available, tailored to different requirements. The MSI B450 Tomahawk has been popular among users. Be sure to verify with the seller that it supports Ryzen 3000, as most are updated with the latest BIOS now. For RAM, a 16GB configuration (two 8GB sticks) at 3200+ should provide a great experience with the Ryzen processor.
