Enhancing my computer system
I've been considering a PC upgrade and need some guidance. I'm unsure which component to prioritize or what parts to change. Could someone share their experience or suggest improvements? My current specs are: CPU i5 8600k, motherboard B360 gaming, GPU nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, 4x G.Skill 4GB DDR4-2133 RAM, 600w PSU.
Seeking higher FPS in games? Start with video cars first. Upgrading to something like an RTX 2070 is possible if it fits your budget. Based on your monitor’s resolution, your CPU may become the bottleneck afterward. A used 8700 could be a good next step if the price matches. You won’t need to overclock a K model since you can’t really do that with its motherboard. Adding six more threads will make a difference as games increasingly use multithreading. Still, even with an i5, a better GPU would noticeably improve performance.
Specific details matter if you're talking about a single unit. You might consider a Z-series board with an overclocked CPU for a performance boost or upgrade from the 8600k to the 8700. Alternatively, selling the board and chip could lead you to a different platform like Zen 2, and you can wait for Zen 3 to see what it offers before deciding. Budget remains a key factor.
In two months you'll receive a 4000 chip and a B550. Plan to upgrade to a 16-core processor before the CPU or motherboard, likely resulting in a more powerful system. Consider 3200 or 3600 clock speeds.
Looking for a used GTX 1080 with a fresh CPU/MBOO setup around $4000. Once that's done, upgrading to DDR 3200/3600 would suit a Ryzen build well. What’s your upgrade budget?
