Currently I have an i7-3770k with 16GB DDR3 at 1333 MHz and a GTX 1060. I’m considering upgrading to either an i7-7700k or the Ryzen 1700, but I’m seeing conflicting information everywhere. Let me know if you can help.

Shainesk is planning to assemble a PC using old components for his basement. He intends to upgrade it but needs to decide the best parts. He recommends getting a Ryzen processor and making sure it has fast RAM, as Ryzen performs better and the sweetspot is around 2666-3000 MHz after 3000MHz with minimal difference.

Ryzen will become more affordable, and it seems new chips will also be available on AM4. Intel might switch to a different socket, which could mean your upgrade patch needs a new motherboard. Overall, Intel is expected to offer better performance, possibly with faster speeds, though it tends to be pricier. Personally, I prefer Ryzen, but good luck!

Shainesk:
My setup has an i7-3770k with 16GB DDR3 at 1333 MHz and a GTX 1060. I’m planning to run 1080p at 144Hz or 120Hz on games like WoW, Overwatch, and CS:GO. I’m weighing the choice between an i7-7700k or a Ryzen 1700. Everyone I ask gives conflicting advice. Could you help me decide?

I'm holding onto the existing components to assemble a PC in my basement. It's expected to get upgraded, so I'm just trying to decide the optimal option.
