Right now I use an RX 7800 XT with a Gigabyte DS3HB DDR4 and an i5-12400. Should I stick with my current setup or switch to a 13600K? I’ve heard some people say my motherboard might cap performance if I upgrade. The upgrade cost is around $280, but another option is getting an AM5 socket, DDR5 RAM, and a Ryzen 7 5800X. Which choice gives the best value?

Avoid handling a 13th and 14th generation Intel CPU with a 10-foot pole unless you risk instability and constant errors. The AM5 setup is the most secure choice—just allow two weeks before the 9000 series CPUs arrive, as they seem to be even more powerful but potentially unstable.

I’m not aware of any budget-friendly AM5 boards that consistently deliver strong performance. The MSI PRO B650M-A is a solid choice, but its value depends on your specific needs and budget.
