Hi everyone! I use an Asus K751LJ laptop mostly for gaming, but I often need to tweak settings for the latest titles. My setup includes an i5-5200U processor, 8GB RAM, a Nvidia 920M graphics card with 2GB memory, and Windows 10 Home. I’m curious about the benefits of boosting my RAM from 8 to 12GB—would that really make a difference? Or am I stuck by my GPU and CPU limitations? Thanks ahead!

You need to pinpoint the issue first. If your system is running low on memory before the CPU or GPU reaches full capacity, adding more RAM can boost performance—otherwise it won’t help much.

8GB suffices for most titles. Performance is mainly determined by graphics cards, so you’ll need to reduce settings significantly for a smooth playthrough.

It's simple to verify: press ctrl+alt+del to check RAM consumption. Around 6GB is normal while gaming, which is fine. Problems appear when you hit 8GB and the HDD/SSD gets full—then performance drops significantly. If it’s not that high, extra RAM won’t help much; usage stays around CPU levels (80%–99%). At 100%, it slows down a lot. That means this laptop won’t last long with new games, especially since cheaper options now exist with Ryzen 1700 and similar chips. You can find good deals for a Ryzen 1700 with an 1060 chip for about $750.

The GPU is causing a slowdown in the whole setup, according to my friend.

Thanks! I've been watching the channel and it's not what I expected. Considering an upgrade feels tricky right now due to various factors. I looked into the task manager and noticed my hard drive is nearly full (1TB HDD), followed by processor and graphics memory, while RAM seems okay. It doesn’t seem like upgrading is worth it at the moment... Appreciate all the help!
