Beta 1.7.3 works well on earlier Sandy Bridge iGPUs, delivering stable 50-60fps without any issues and a decent medium-far render range. Beta 1.8, on the other hand, only managed around 5fps with maximum fog and essentially no render distance on that same hardware. -.-;

As a modpack creator and support person, amplified means significant boosts in terrain handling and loading larger chunks at once, forcing more data into memory. Regarding RAM, it’s true Java isn’t optimized for high-performance gaming and its memory management can be tricky. In 1.7.10 with over 200 FPS, running 50 mods plus a texture pack at max settings still caps around 40 FPS even with 3GB of RAM. Newer, fractal-based biome code has been implemented; some biomes were expanded to feel more expansive, which contributed to the CPU spike.

The CPU performed adequately, but the real issue was the iGPU or onboard graphics component. Dropping a relatively inexpensive GPU—specifically the HD6850—cost around $200 AUD, which forced me to replace it so I could get the system back up and running on the temporary setup.
