Up to now I've tried out two games (AFAIK): Salt and Sanctuary and Blasphemous. For PC, of course. No need for 8-bit or 16-bit retro graphics—just if I wanted that, I could purchase the ROMs and run an emulator on older systems. Can I buy those?
Hollow Knight is a top pick among my favorites. It works well for relaxed sessions and offers plenty of content for those who enjoy tougher challenges. Regarding ROMs, I don’t believe there are any genuine options available outside of platforms like the Nintendo Virtual Console for Switch or the new PlayStation service they introduced to replace PS+.
Just saw that video and thought it looked appealing. I might consider getting it.
This game mixes elements from both Metroidvania and Souls-style titles, offering a rich 2D experience. It's quite a departure from typical retro visuals, which some might find confusing. While older games could be recreated with modern graphics, this version delivers a fresh take with enhanced mechanics, smoother performance, and improved controls. The overall quality has significantly improved since the early days of gaming. If you haven't explored Souls games yet, giving it a try could be worthwhile.
It seems you're questioning the value of Retro Graphics and wondering if reverting to a simpler color palette would be beneficial. The idea of returning to CGA with just four colors is intriguing.
