malwarebytes plus defender remains completely virus-free, frequently downloads unwanted files, and visits sketchy websites. Detection happens fast, and cleanup is swift using SSD+autoscan at startup.

That sounds confusing. It’s unclear if combining them will actually help, since there might be unnecessary checks happening.

I’d also consider ZoneAlarm firewall and eliminate Kaspersky’s issues—it’s terrible, but Avast is much better too. Plus, it offers internet protection as well.

In fact, any antivirus should handle the task well. What you have is quite good. If you're okay with a bit of annoyance from software, consider Comodo Firewall. It might be bothersome, but it helps you decide whether to let or block apps from accessing the internet. I use it because I experiment with cool programs, so I want to understand what's trying to connect online without my consent.
