Hello there, a while back I owned a Cisco 2960G router that failed right after its initial setup in 2007. After getting it refurbished three years prior, my lab was completely offline due to this switch's failure. I had to source another device for replacement, which was an Allied Telesis AT8000GS/48. However, since the rack is still in my room, the fan noise bothers me a lot—especially now that I have a fully enclosed unit.

In addition, I manage three servers, each with two network interfaces: one connected to the home network and another to a dedicated data transfer network. While searching for a suitable replacement, I stumbled upon FS products. I’m curious if anyone has used these items before and found them reliable.

Right now I’m considering two options:
- The S3900-24T4S with 24 Gigabit RJ45 ports, four 10Gb SFP+ uplinks, and fanless design.
- The S3200-8MG4S featuring eight 100M/1000M/2.5G multi-gigabit ports, four 10Gb SFP+ uplinks, and two small fans.

For the latter model, I’m worried about the noise it might produce. If you have any other recommendations in this price range (under €400) and don’t want to include shipping costs, please let me know. Thanks!

Determine the required Gigabit and 10-gig ports. Consider a managed switch capable of Layer 3 functionality. Explore options such as the Aruba S2500, Brocade ICX, and FastIron lines.

Keep in mind the impact of rising energy costs due to higher power usage.

It's reducing power usage significantly compared to most enterprise switches that don't use the ICX6650.

For 10 gig ports, having at least three per server works well—just need VLAN support. L2 performs nicely; I don’t really use Aruba anymore after my previous company, and I’m having trouble locating Brocade or FastIron products in European stores.
