I'm running a dedicated server for space engineers that I haven't set up as private. Steam doesn't support passwords, only group IDs. When players reach the asteroid's bottom, I experience over 20 FPS while my friend drops to over 12 FPS (I have a GTX 670 with an i5-2500K at stock specs, while he uses an Elite X51). My CPU stays consistently under 80% usage, and my RAM is only about half full. The GPU isn't being pushed even with processor or RAM limits. (My second monitor has GPU Tweak and Task Manager open.) This issue has happened with other games (especially in Planetside 2) where my CPU seems to be the limiting factor—not the monitors. Is this a problem specific to SE, my hardware, or are the monitors inaccurate? (P.S. When my friend's ship starts drilling—6x6 plates of large block drills)—my CPU reaches 100% and the game slows down for everyone.)

The space puzzle creators are still working on beta, which means the game isn’t fully done. There’s a lot more work left, especially with optimization. If you wait a bit longer, the developers might be able to improve it.

If you're running the server on the same machine, expect issues. The client handles multiple threads well, but the server caps at one core and crashes under heavy load. They should boost the dedicated processing power... I'm testing it on a G860 server with a 4.2ghz 4670K. It performs solidly (50+ fps) even with big fleets, as long as people don't overload things with excessive rocket launches.

Take a moment to capture the screen. Edit: Space engineers chose to refresh quietly... need to adjust the server. Edit 2: Here are my screenshots showing the lag trigger: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/fi...=369118927 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/fi...=369118955 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/fi...=369118978 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/fi...=369119001 Are these sufficient to cause your game lag? Currently, my server has few large ships and none of them were visible in these images. Max frame rate around 25 frames per second. Runs for about 19 minutes. I don’t use any lighting effects, as they usually halve the refresh rate with four spotlights.

Just to confirm, have you adjusted the configurations? Like disabling vSync or reducing settings. The lowest performance I achieved was 40 fps, and I only had a 560TI atm GPU. On the left is the server CPU usage, the right side shows the client desktop. I strongly suggest testing on another machine first. A single-core load can become quite high on the server end, though I’d recommend a Sandy or better desktop processor. It doesn’t matter if it’s a weak dual-core like mine; what matters is the IPC—desktop clock speeds as well as laptop frequencies.

Some games don’t make full use of your GPU and CPU since they don’t require it or aren’t well optimized. This is something I’ve noticed with Dota 2, even though my system has more than enough power for the game.

This game isn't fully polished yet, it's still in beta.

Dedicated servers are often blamed for FPS drops when updates are applied. Running my SE on Linux hasn’t led me to create something as large to experience the issue. Many people have expressed interest in Linux dedicated servers, which shows they’re eager to catch up.
