Engine running at 75 degrees Celsius
Hello friends, my CPU is getting quite hot and I’m concerned. I discovered this after reviewing his SPECCY list, which showed a temperature of 75°C. He mentioned it wasn’t running a game and said nothing else was happening. I advised him to keep the system clean, but he claims it was cleaned two weeks ago. He suggested changing the thermal paste, though he can’t do that right now because his job is on hold. What other steps could we take to help cool it down? Here’s his CPU-Z list, and I noticed the 1.45V reading seems unusually high. Could that be the reason for the overheating? He doesn’t know about overclocking, so it might have been done by the previous owner. Is adjusting the voltage worth trying? Without proper knowledge, I’m worried he might damage his BIOS. Edit: He told me he bought it brand new. I’m not sure why the voltage is so high. Is this typical for this processor?
Verify dust presence, confirm fans are running, and note the PC size. It might be a lack of thermal paste.
He initially doubted the download, thinking it risky if the system failed, but later experienced stuttering during gameplay and asked for help. I connected his hardware monitor and CPU-Z, which will soon process the images. His idle temperature hovered near 60°C with spikes up to 70°C, and the voltage read from CPU-Z was between 1.425 and 1.450 volts, while the HWmonitor reported around 1.39 volts—close to 1.4. Attached are the photos. Edit 2: The images I shared show the package and core temperatures from HWinfo, and I added his task manager to display idle usage. Roughly 15-20% of CPU usage was seen when only TeamViewer and Discord were active. I suspect lowering the voltage might be the fix, as it seems someone adjusted it without replacing a decent cooler. The PC’s case appears old, with an 80mm CPU cooler and exhaust only, no intake. It seems the voltage increase was made without proper cooling considerations. Before diving into his BIOS, I wanted additional perspectives—given Georgia’s lockdown, he can’t easily purchase new thermal paste or parts right now.
The voltage fits the A8-5500 according to its specifications (0.825 - 1.475 V) at CPU-World. It’s unlikely the issue is with the voltage itself. Make sure to verify it in the BIOS and reset it if needed. Also, examine the cooling system—apply thermal paste, ensure fans are working, and clear any dust from heatsinks and openings.
