In short, this issue arises occasionally, not always. It happens when using Bluetooth audio devices while playing games. My setup includes the Sony WH-1000XM4 and AirPods Pro as backup. The sound quality is excellent, but during certain titles like DOOM Eternal, Battlefield 2042, Warzone, and Halo: Infinite Multiplayer, everything shifts to a phone call quality. The problem is especially noticeable with voice chat options.

Possible causes: Opening multiplayer games (except the ones listed) while using Bluetooth. I’ve checked the audio settings and turned on “Hands-free Telephony.” That fixed it, but there’s still a slight delay—about 1-2 seconds. The YouTube video I’m watching also shows the same lag. Even after a fresh PC installation, the issue remains.

I’ve tried resetting both devices and disabling “Hands-free Telephony.” The audio improved, but the delay lingered. I’m considering switching to a wired headset that doesn’t rely on Bluetooth. What might be the main reason behind this problem?

Thanks for your help!

Bluetooth operates by switching to a traditional telephony profile when needed. You might want to turn off the microphone and hands-free features in your audio settings to prevent changes. You won't be able to use the microphone at all.

I mentioned "unchecked" without a clear context, as Windows doesn't have an option to uncheck audio devices. Disabling the headset in various settings won’t resolve the issue, so you may need to turn off voice features across all apps or accept the limitation.
