Hey everyone, I've been living in Japan for a while now with limited internet, so I couldn't play online with my European friends. The good news is I'll get fiber in November. Should I be able to connect with my friend at a decent speed—around 20-30 ping?

It's a solid performance—well above average.

You'll get much nearer to 300 ping. In the UK with a solid internet, Japanese servers lag behind, while places like Australia perform worse.

I've experimented with about 2 ms in my last apartment ^^ so it's hard to say what's good anymore. I'm currently at 300ms on a weak Wi-Fi connection. I'm hoping fiber will help a bit, at least.

It's going to be tough with CS Go, though I'm planning on getting the fiber. Still, I'm feeling a bit let down.

It's FTTC, meaning copper runs from your home to the cabinet and then fiber connects to the exchange. FTTP would be even faster but not below 100 ms. Since it's quite far, it likely needs multiple connections, which can slow things down.

I haven’t finalized my plans for November yet—I’m still figuring it out. However, I’ll aim for a location with FTTP fiber. Even if I can’t play CS:GO, I’ll be able to enjoy Star Citizen or other MMOs.
