I saved and unpacked the tar.gz file from the proton ge GitHub release. Created compatibilitytools.d folder in /.local/share/steam/compatibilitytools.d/ and /.steam/root_compatibilitytools.d/. Placed both versions of proton ge there, but Steam still can't choose either. My system won’t update, so I can’t just click “yay” to install it. What else should I try to get Steam to find proton ge? I attempted to force a specific Steam compatibility tool version, but it wasn’t available. How can I make Steam recognize proton ge and add it to the dropdown? I also ran a /killall steam and rebooted after creating those folders, but it didn’t help. This installation was done using Yay, not Flatpak.

It seems there might be a typo in the path. The correct location is likely `~/.local/share/Steam/compat` instead of `.local/share/Steam`.
