Hello everyone,
Support for Windows 10 will stop in a few months, and free updates won’t be available anymore—it requires payment for extended support. If someone can’t upgrade to Windows 11 because of hardware or compatibility problems, using unofficial software might cause system issues, as Microsoft warns. What options exist in this case? Instead of switching to Linux, is there a way to keep getting important updates for free after support ends, and can Microsoft Defender updates remain free? Thank you
There’s no way to keep getting important updates for free once support stops.
Microsoft keeps you locked out unless you possess their internal codes.
And can you still receive Microsoft Defender updates at no cost?
You might still run Windows 10 on your existing system, but avoiding Windows Defender’s requirements means switching to another antivirus. If a system flaw exists or you need drivers that demand an OS patch, you’ll be stuck. For example, I had to abandon my Z97 Stinger after a certain update broke my installation of Windows 10 until I discovered the issue.

You might still run Windows 10 on your existing hardware, but you’ll have to find another antivirus to avoid Windows Defender’s restrictions. If a system vulnerability exists or you need drivers that require an OS patch, you could get stuck. For example, after a certain update I had to abandon my Z97 Stinger because it kept triggering the BSoD by downloading incorrect chipset drivers despite manual installation of a stable version. It turned out fixing it was simple if Microsoft had released a patch. When people asked about Z97 support, they confirmed they wouldn’t allocate more resources for that platform anymore (paraphrased).
I gave up on waiting and switched to an AM5 system—so I’m ready for Windows 12 when it arrives.
I never imagined a new system would be necessary just for running an operating system! There must be a reason beyond Microsoft pushing users toward a fresh platform—otherwise, they’d miss out on the essential features of the OS. It’s quite amusing!
This link I discovered! Is it really useful and effective?!
