Hi everyone. I've been following this community for years, but haven't really engaged much lately. I came across a video about Linus facing firmware issues and wanted to share my experience with TP-Link, offering some guidance. This isn't strictly a networking issue, but since these are mesh routers, I thought it might be worth posting first.

I bought a set of TP-Link Deco P9 mesh routers for my parents a while back. I saw it as a straightforward solution and assumed TP-Link was a trustworthy brand. Initially, the routers had problems with WPA active—we couldn't switch to just WPA2. Eventually, they fixed that. There were still some hiccups like error logs, client disconnections, and 5GHz signals dropping, but overall it worked for their needs.

I've posted on the forum a few times and reached out to support, but beyond standard troubleshooting steps, there was no real progress. No updates or responses from the developers. This isn't about a generic brand; it's specifically TP-Link. The first update I got in October 2020 addressed WPA issues, yet problems persisted. They do support PLC connections, which helped with some unreachable areas via cable, though PLC isn't ideal for home use.

The second update in January 2021 promised improvements, but the issues remained. We've been using these routers for over a year and still haven't seen any fixes. I'm considering upgrading to another brand, especially since I have an Asus router that's performed well for me. However, without seeing clear solutions, it feels like I might need to give up and try something else. Thanks for your help!

This. Waiting for them to fix what you want will take forever.

That is a good solution, but how to make the manufacturer responsibly for this? Creating a product and then not providing any update for it?

You can't rely on having a large audience. What you can do is avoid negative feedback by leaving poor reviews and then proceed.
