Encountering stuttering problems with the newly installed Ryzen 7 5700X on a B450 motherboard running Windows 10.
I previously used an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X on my Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming Board, and after that I swapped it for a Ryzen 7 5700X. I continue to run Windows 10. Since the upgrade, I've noticed stuttering in first-person shooters like Valorant. Some users mention that Valorant can have stuttering on certain setups. I need to understand why this happens with my new CPU. Here are my current details:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X
- Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming
- RAM: 32 GB DDR4 @ 3000 M/H
- GPU: RTX 3060 Ti
- Storage: 1 TB SATA SSD
- Power supply: 650W 80 Plus Gold
I’ve updated the BIOS to version 4901, which addresses an AMD FTPM issue reported on the Asus site. I also updated the chipset firmware to the latest version as of November 4, 2022. I’ve reinstalled the graphics driver recently.
It might lead to stuttering if activated, so verify you haven’t turned it on by default. Usually these BIOS updates turn it on automatically.
I resolved the stuttering problem. It wasn't caused by the CPU, motherboard, or driver problems. The memory timings were not optimized properly. After updating the BIOS, I kept the DRAM timings at their default setting. It seems the ASUS board selects DRAM timings that are overly restrictive: 15-15-15-36 compared to the module ratings of 15-17-17-36. Essentially, I matched the timings to what the modules were rated for, as indicated on the sticks. You can also adjust the DOCP setting to let it handle the timings automatically.
I've faced the same issue before, I'm really new to this stuff. Can you tell me if the timing of your game is working properly? I have an R9 5900X, 64GB Corsair 3200MHz RAM, and an MSI X570 gaming PC. Please help me out, I'm really frustrated.
