Encountering strange problems while downloading? Let me help clarify what might be happening.
You're experiencing some unusual problems. Downloads across various browsers and desktop applications often stop abruptly, showing different error messages. Chrome downloads tend to fail quickly, usually with a "network error" notice. Downloads from Curseforge report a decryption failure with an inner exception. The issue began yesterday but resolved temporarily. It has reappeared recently despite troubleshooting efforts. Your system runs Windows 11 Home 64-bit with a Ryzen 9 5950x, Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero motherboard, latest BIOS, RTX 3090 GPU, G.Skill Trident Z Neo 3600, and Seasonic Focus GX-850. RAM is 3600MHz. The problem persists even after checking Windows integrity via sfc and dism. A VPN didn't help, and the issue isn't reproducible on your phone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
No issues with Discord or YouTube, and no problems in any online games I've tried
This link provides guidance on a network-related issue reported in Google Chrome. It explains the problem and suggests possible solutions.
Other applications besides Chrome also face problems with downloading, including Minecraft launcher and curseforge, whereas Steam appears to be working fine. When I attempt to restart the download, it fetches a tiny segment—typically 2 to 5 MB—before stopping again. This pattern repeats until the entire download completes, which is quite frustrating.
Address file download issues – the Chrome Help mentioned a "Network failed" error. When installing from the Chrome Web Store, something might be blocking the process. To resolve: delete any unwanted software first, then attempt the install again. If it still doesn’t work, reinstall Chrome. I've turned off hardware acceleration before, cleared the cache, and disabled my antivirus or firewall. That Chrome suggestion seems to work only for the Chrome Web Store, and I haven't added any new software recently.
