Encountering difficulties setting up Linux on Catalina 10.15.7
My issue: when exiting the boot menu and selecting the drive, it indicates a software update is needed to access the 'disk'. My actions: I used disk utility to set up a partition on my SSD (MS-DOS, FAT32, 110GB), erased my flash drive and reformatted it as instructed (MS-DOS, FAT32). Then I downloaded Ubuntu as an ISO file and used Etcher to transfer it onto my USB stick. After rebooting, I entered the boot menu and encountered the same error despite only having one flash drive connected. Two identical USB drives appeared in the menu. Other attempts: I allowed my system to boot from an external drive, disabled all security settings on both the main drive and any boot drives. My laptop is fully updated. When I selected the boot drive, it displayed: "A software update is required to use this startup disk." Clicking update initiated a download phase lasting a few minutes before automatically restarting on the other partition. Could you provide more information? Thanks!
No available choice in Disk Utility for ext4 or 3, please note this is near the knowledge limit
Used balenaEtcher to transfer files, but the previous method failed completely.
