I've been using my tower for nearly a year now and decided to upgrade the RAM from 32GB to 64GB. Each time I add more memory, an orange DRAM light appears on the motherboard when I attempt to boot, indicating a potential issue. This happened before when I first set up the system and struggled with booting in different slots. Initially, placing one stick in the first slot worked, but adding the remaining three caused problems. Now I’m trying to resolve the same problem with 64GB. My current setup includes: motherboard, Asus Prime X399-A, CPU, AMD Ryzen ThreadRipper 1950X, power supply, Corsair RM1000x, video card, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070, SSD, Samsung 970 Pro NVMe M.2 512GB, and G.Skill TridentZ DDR4 3200Mhz 32GB. RAM upgrade to 64GB is the goal. Any suggestions or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
For your X570 with 3800X, an update was needed before using 64GB. You may also test individual drives to check for faulty sticks or slots in the package.
There are 8 slots with a RAM module in each one. When I install 64GB, it fits all slots. At 32GB, only the first four slots are used before the CPU. I plan to update the BIOS tomorrow to check if this works.
I changed the BIOS to the newest release and attempted a fresh install of the additional RAM, but it didn’t work. The orange DRAM indicator stays lit even with 64GB installed, yet the system functions normally with 32GB installed. You might be onto something with the motherboard—remember when I assembled the board and followed the module layout from the manual? It always had those DRAM lights flashing. I removed all RAM, inserted one stick into the first slot, and it booted correctly. Then I added four sticks to the first four slots in the same order as the CPU and I kept running it fine for about a year. The remaining four slots on the motherboard seem unresponsive or dead. Although the warranty covers three years, you might want to return it for replacement.
