Check your page files and see if they’re correct. Switching to DX10 might affect performance if settings aren’t optimized.
I’m considering purchasing the game and came across this discussion... I first tried the non-legal version to test its stability, but it caused some unexpected crashes. I figured if it’s a non-legal copy, I shouldn’t have issues when buying it, which is what I usually do. Still, I don’t want to pay $50 for something that keeps crashing. @ johnmhigh Your question about whether my copy is pirated or legal is important—I need to know for sure before making a decision. @ Kloaked It matched exactly what you mentioned, and it seems to have resolved the problem for you. That gives me some reassurance. Now I just need honest answers from OP about which version he owns.
You're noticing many Steam reviews about crashes, and while some praise the game, others mention occasional issues. It looks like the crashing is more frequent than expected, possibly affecting the Steam version. You're probably weighing the pros and cons carefully before deciding to buy.
I wouldn't purchase it right now if I were you. Wait until the game gets fixed before buying it so you can fully enjoy it without dealing with crashes near the end of a lengthy mission. Rockstar has created an excellent game with great graphics and gameplay, but they often overlook stability issues. They’ve made their money from it across multiple platforms—PS3, 360, PS4, Xbox One, and now PC.
Ensure your SSD is paired with a mechanical hard drive that has a configured page file. I recently added a Samsung 850 EVO as a boot drive and faced random crashes because of insufficient memory. GTAV seems to dislike systems with very little or no page file. To fix this, open the Start menu (Windows 7), go to "Computer," choose "Properties," click "Advanced system settings," then select "Performance" and the "Advanced" tab. In the box labeled "Virtual Memory," pick "Change." Choose a mechanical drive, set its size, and click OK. Restart your system afterward; try launching GTAV again. If crashes persist, it may be an issue with the game or your setup.
