Hi there, I used to work with Windows for a long time before switching to Apple for more than 15 years now. I’m currently dealing with a tricky setup where I need to install Windows 11 on an HP ProLiant MicroServer 8th Gen. The drive configuration is quite unusual: four 2 TB HDDs connected via an internal RAID card, plus one 256 GB SSD on a separate SATA port. All devices are set up for AHCI compatibility and not as JBOD. When I boot Windows 11, I select the version, language, layout, etc., then go to drive selection and partitioning. I pick the unallocated space and create a new partition. After that, I encounter the error: "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one." I’ve added the RAID card drivers but haven’t changed anything else. I’ve tried using diskpart for cleaning, partitioning, formatting, and assigning drives, yet the issue persists. Any suggestions? TIA Fabio

Check if the drives are vacant and identify which one is intended for installation or replacement.

thank you for helping! So, I am trying to install to the SSD. All drives (4x2 TB) and the SSD are empty and formatting up and down is no problem! This entire project has 0 data considerations. The only goal is to get this sucker up and running

Remove the RAID controller from the system and disconnect any devices connected to it. Then try installing Windows 11 on the SSD.

The RAID card is built into the mainboard itself.

No, the SATA SSD is not linked to the RAID controller.

All primary mainboard SATA connections belong to the integrated Raid system.

Remove the SSD, install it on a different system with another operating system, extract the SSD again, and connect it back to the microserver.

Attempting with a vintage ThinkPad W520 that was labeled for disposal. Starting with Windows 10, same issue appeared on the HP MicroServer. Updates coming soon!

Thanks! It really helped. The old ThinkPad W520 is safe in a box, and I’m keeping Windows 10 for now. Appreciate it!
