I just upgraded my motherboard from version 8.1 to W10 preview without a fresh install. I removed the drivers that might be causing issues. After completing those steps, everything worked as expected, but I received a notification asking me to activate Windows in Settings. The activation page shows Windows isn't activated yet. Please help me resolve this.

Windows 10 is connected to your computer's hardware, swapping your motherboard makes the setup fail

Have you ever encountered an unauthorized version of Windows? It happened to me when I tried a copy of Windows 8 for a program I used solely on one hard drive—it wouldn’t activate until I disabled the illegitimate copy on my motherboard. EDIT: Just noticed, you upgraded your motherboard too. The activation key is linked to that board. You might want to deactivate the old version from it.

Restart the PC using a machine with that motherboard and the valid license. Proceed with the steps to disable it.
