Enable the PC to power down while media continues playing.
I handle the cable bill myself, but we’re hitting the 1TB limit almost every month now. That’s probably not the only cause, but it should significantly reduce our usage. My family tends to leave YouTube playing automatically and go to sleep, just like with cable TV, causing it to run all night. From what I’ve noticed, if any media is playing on Windows, the PC won’t shut down. Is there a way to make the PC sleep even when media is playing in the background? I’ve tried talking to them several times, including asking my mom to watch videos at 480p, but she uses the cable box for YouTube. I’m hoping to persuade her to use her laptop instead, or at least find a solution.
Search quickly, please. This should help or at least start the process. Launch the Task Manager in Windows 10. Follow the instructions there to create a shutdown schedule for a specific time, like 3-5 AM. Adjust settings as needed. Refer to the Microsoft forum link for more details.
Shutdown includes parameter "t" for duration. A basic batch file should handle this.
Some browser extensions can lock YT to a particular size, preventing automatic resizing of videos at 1080p, 1440p, or 4K.
Configure the router to limit connection speed during nighttime hours.
Certainly they do because it's offered at no cost. If they had to charge, they wouldn't. Simple. You could also limit your internet use at night, but they might catch on and protest... Hope you're successful!
Thanks everyone, I plan to set up a task to put my brothers' computer to sleep around 1:00 AM. Throttling is an option, actually I was thinking about data throttling based on usage by assigned Mac addresses, though that might be too complex for me if it’s possible.
