When trying to activate sli through the NVIDIA control panel, you're only presented with the choice to enable it by spanning your displays via NVIDIA Surround. If you attempt that, the screens flash and then go black, requiring a reboot to view anything. Someone, please help resolve this issue.

No, you are choosing "Maximize 3D performance" instead of "Span Displays with Surround".
