Enable screen sharing in Discord using Wayland on Linux.
Hey everyone, I'm on Fedora 40 with KDE Plasma and use Discord for chatting and screen sharing. Many users have mentioned issues with Wayland screen sharing—it doesn’t seem to work properly. I’ve checked a few options: the Vesktop app often crashes or freezes, making it hard to use. I also tried the built-in Wayland-to-X11 bridge, but it didn’t help either. I’ve attached a screenshot for reference. My system details are: OS Fedora 40, KDE Plasma 6.1.4, Discord stable version, and so on. Let me know if there’s a fix or workaround you recommend.
It appears the issue relates to Discord's Client needing an update, possibly involving Electron version changes. While alternatives exist, such as X11 or Wayland-compatible clients, using a third-party solution may breach Discord's terms of service. Consider community packages for codec support or a compatible client that adheres to their guidelines.
It functions properly since your browser doesn't rely on hardware codecs, thanks to WebRTC.
