Hey everyone. I’ve got a working DisplayPort MST configuration. All the gear I’m using is listed here: monitors, DP cables, a hub, and a PC. The setup runs fine in BIOS and on Ubuntu that’s been loaded. I’ve updated every driver I could find and reinstalled them several times. My GPU and its software have been factory reset, upgraded to experimental builds, and I’ve downloaded what seems like extra AMD code—nothing seems to help much. I’ve only used the DP monitors at their lowest settings and refresh rates. Nothing has solved the issue. The screens seem to work while Windows boots up (showing BIOS and Windows logos), but one monitor drops off as soon as the login screen appears. At that stage, one monitor appears permanently gone from Windows. Changing display settings triggers the error: “The display settings could not be saved. Please try a different combination.” Lastly, I should note my Windows isn’t activated. My motherboard started with a physical disc copy of Windows 7, and I got a free upgrade years ago. Eventually, Microsoft decided it was invalid and disabled it. I don’t know why or when this happened, but I haven’t bought a new version since I haven’t found a real reason to. Hope someone can shed some light on what’s going on. Thanks, reze

Which GPU are you using? It supports multiple monitors, though MST Hubs don’t change the physical limits—just add more ports. The issue occurs consistently when trying to add a fifth monitor, since NVIDIA caps it at four.

The PC configuration is included in the article. You’ll also notice two images showing all four monitors functioning via the GPU, both in the BIOS and on Ubuntu. This build uses an AMD RX550.

It seems the PC link was omitted. The card appears compatible with up to five displays. Consider using DDU and reinstalling drivers if needed—there might be residual files from your previous attempt. Alternatively, try a fresh Windows installation via Rufus on a USB drive.

I just tried reinstalling Windows from the beginning again—nothing happened. The monitor problem is still there. I managed to resolve another unrelated issue earlier, though. Back then, my internet speed was capped at around 15Mbps, but with the new connection and a fresh setup, I can now reach 900 or even 200 Mbps. That’s really impressive. Now I’m focusing on fixing those stubborn monitors...
