We recently acquired an excessive quantity of brand-new Cisco Meraki APs to replace the outdated Aerohive system... a bit disappointing they’re facing restrictions now.

It's unusual unless the setup is so bad that signals become very weak. Clients stuck on 802.11g often end up reverting to that standard. Some users on 802.11g don't force others to join, it just wastes bandwidth and drains processing power from the AP as it changes settings constantly.
