@SolarNova is discussing two possibilities. You might be able to install more than one operating system on separate partitions with a boot manager at startup, but this wouldn't assist if you need to use newer applications alongside Windows XP. You also have the option of using a virtual machine, such as VMware, to run Windows XP virtually. This allows you to access both Windows 10 and Windows 7 at the same time. You could attempt to run older games in compatibility mode in Windows 10 first, though this isn't always successful. If Windows XP is essential and compatibility mode fails, installing XP in a virtual machine would be the best approach. If you're using Windows 10, running it virtually with OBS for capturing and streaming to Twitch requires sufficient hardware support. What are your current specifications?

Just ensure you're not downloading from questionable sources. Generally, use common sense.

Yeah, not completely certain, but generally if it's a game that needs an activation code or similar Windows 10 features, it will likely block it. This tends to affect games from around 2006 to 2012 by major publishers such as EA.

I'm curious if this would avoid the "copy protection issue"?
From what I understand, Windows 10 treats those as viruses or malware and will not run these games at all.

Intel Pentium G3240 with 16 GB DDR3 RAM installed. I don't have details about the motherboard or GPU—this computer was a gift, and I haven't opened it yet.

Sure, I understand. I enjoy games such as Zoo Tycoon and its expansions, as well as the old JumpStart educational titles. I plan to try them all out.

Unfortunately that computer will only run one OS at a time so you will need to dual boot the old fashioned way. Two partitions on your drive, two operating systems, and one boot manager to switch between them. That's a lower end PC from almost 6 years ago so it's not going to be very good for gaming. The machine is really more suited for web browsing and media consumption.

Oh dear. Are you certain? My old roommate, who left this computer behind when they moved, used to play games on it often. It didn't run the games themselves, which were mostly newer, but perhaps it could handle the older ones in a virtual machine?
