Hey everyone!
I'm just starting out here. I've been following Linus' videos for more than a year and he's really helped me understand a lot about computers. Tech stuff is slowly becoming clearer for me.
My issue is trying to run old games or programs. Most are on CD-ROMs, but some are from sites like Big Fish Games. A lot of them run on Windows XP, though I've been told not to connect to the internet from that computer because it's outdated and unsupported. I'm learning about virtualization and emulators, but I'm struggling to get it right. I need to figure out which emulator works best for Windows XP. Plus, I'd like to use an emulator on my newer machine instead of just installing the games on the old one, since I want to record myself playing. The newer computer already has a video recording program installed.
Any tips would be super helpful!

It would certainly be helpful to check if the game has updates that support modern operating systems. If virtualization is necessary, tools like VMware Player could be a suitable option.

Have you attempted to install and execute them in compatibility mode for Windows XP?

Compatibility mode refers to using a newer system to play older games, allowing the need for a screen recorder. I plan to record myself while playing, so the system must support this feature.

Just start Windows XP, you won't suddenly catch a virus.
be careful while browsing and you'll be okay.
consider using a dual OS system.

I definitely could do that! But I just explained in my post that I also want to record myself playing these games. Since the old computer doesn't have a video recording program, but the newer one does, I need to understand what a dual OS system is.

Many older titles with specific copy safeguards don't work well on Windows 10, unfortunately.

Search for [game title] on Windows 10 (or 7) or similar, and it's likely many people will want to play it on a current operating system. Some might even require no updates at all.

Sure, let me clarify—are these patches secure enough to download from any random website?
