It often occurred on the refurbished laptop I fixed for my brother. I removed the Wi-Fi module to prevent further downloads, and after reinstalling Windows it took less time than trying to clear out the unnecessary software initially.
Cut off the internet connection immediately by unplugging the Ethernet cable or switching off the wireless button. Use another PC if available—install DL Outpost, Kaspersky, or webroot and remove it. Verify your internet adapter settings and ensure no proxy is active. Consider performing a DNS flush. If the issue continues, perform a clean installation.
Malwarebytes and Avast are excellent choices. Adding AdBlock to her browser is also a good idea. Many users fall for fake ads.
