Email forwarding
Email forwarding
I own a domain. The consulting firm I work with intends to purchase it.
I’ll likely receive emails on my current account for the remainder of the year.
They claim they will forward my messages, which should still reach my old domain.
I’m not sure what to do next.
If it passes through a server they possess and manage, they might be able to observe it.
The sole solution is to notify everyone and verify their email addresses at your new account before selling the domain.
Certainly in theory they might configure auto-forwarding settings, but it's impossible to be certain.
Email encryption is available here. Otherwise, you must choose a different email service.
I also fear that any redirection or autoreply, whether you remove the account or not, could keep incoming messages intact. They may not need to investigate those messages, but it poses a serious security concern.
Going back a bit...
I wonder why the company (your client?) is interested in buying what seems to be your consulting domain name. Compared to using their own company name, there’s always some connection to that domain and any future actions could affect you too.
You might not fully understand the details, but I’d be careful and possibly consult a lawyer before moving forward...
These emails and situations are really raising my concerns.
Just my thoughts on the matter.
