I reviewed the "tutorial" for Elite: Dangerous and am considering starting the game right away. Do you have any opinions on the experience? Would it be a good investment?

Consider a different title for it.

I appreciate the design, but I wouldn’t go for the Beta version. I’ll have to wait a while before buying it—I need to try Metro 2033 and Last Light Redux first.

Drift a little while you can.
Check out that interesting cosmic scene.
Feel the lull when things get dull.
Unwind by diving into Skyrim—or another game.

I'm really enjoying the experience, despite its small scale at the moment. Being in beta means only a limited selection of systems, ships, and market options are available. Everything is still under development, so don't expect a polished final product just yet. Overall, it feels fairly stable. If you're not into big sci-fi space games, this might seem slow and unexciting, but fans will appreciate the opportunity to play. Piloting your ship with a joystick feels natural. Please don't think this game will match StarCitizen—it's meant for a different audience. They're two distinct projects. I'm excited to try it out too; I was a big fan of Elite 2 and can't wait to see how they expand on this one. They mentioned a paid expansion with planetary features, and they're aiming for a late 2014 release, so it's possible we'll get the complete version this year.
