Elevated processor activity resulting in pauses.
Hello everyone!
I'm recently joining the PC gaming world and have just assembled my personal gaming computer. I’ve encountered an unusual issue that wasn't present when I was playing on a console previously.
Here are my system specifications:
* i5-8600 @4.1GHz
* Galax GTX 1060 6GB OC
* 8GB DDR4 2666 MHz
* Corsair 600W PSU
* Gigabyte Aorus B360m Motherboard
* 1TB 7200 RPM Seagate HDD
From the beginning, I’ve experienced pauses while playing open-world games and battle royale titles (such as Fortnite, GTA V, and PUBG). I’ve attempted to monitor my system performance by opening the task manager during gameplay, revealing that my CPU usage consistently remains between 70% and 90%, occasionally reaching 100%, which leads to these interruptions. I utilized Afterburner to check my component temperatures, and they are within a normal range (60-70°C during gameplay). It seems that others suggested my graphics card might be limiting the performance of my processor, however it’s possible that the issue is occurring in reverse.
Do you have any suggestions for resolving this problem?

Are you positive that you’re not executing any applications while you're gaming? Your i5 8600 shouldn’t limit the performance of your GTX 1060 – it's a reasonably powerful processor. I consistently shut down all background programs before launching my games. I’ll take a screenshot of the Task Manager's processes while gaming so you can observe it more precisely.

What is your memory consumption?
it typically hovers between 5.7 and 6GB while gaming
It’s possible your single-channel RAM is causing problems... consider upgrading to a 2x8GB kit, and you should likely notice some performance gains.
You could have a problem with your single stick of RAM causing issues... consider upgrading to a 2x8GB kit, and you should likely notice an improvement.
Would running RAM in dual channels actually lower your CPU load, or at least prevent those sudden 100% usage spikes? I haven't encountered that before.
Increasing your RAM to 16 gigabytes could be beneficial. What games exhibit frequent hard drive usage, particularly when reaching 100% performance? Utilizing 8 gigabytes might result in excessive data buffering to your hard drive, which then puts a strain on the processor and can lead to choppy gameplay due to this process’s relatively slow speed.
