I possess an older MacBook Pro (5,1) with Intel C2Duo processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB hard drive, GeForce 9400M graphics, and 9600GT speed. After MacOS became very sluggish, I switched to Ubuntu. I’m exploring Linux distributions and found Elementary OS appealing. Though I have limited experience setting up Linux distributions, I’m curious—does it handle driver installation automatically? Also, since it’s Debian-based like Ubuntu, should I expect the same terminal commands to work? Thanks! Tagging @GabenJr for his great Linux content!

On both accounts, if the drivers are present, it seems the laptop is quite old.

Elementary OS is essentially Ubuntu with a distinct appearance. (I understand it’s not fully accurate, but it works for this case.) All your Ubuntu knowledge can be easily moved to EOS.

Thanks a lot to @Radium_Angel. There are drivers available, Ubuntu supports them. XOrg also provides them. Appreciate @Master Disaster! Moving to ElementaryOS because of your help!
