I powered on the PC today, but nothing happened. The red LED on the GPU was lit. Initially assumed the GPU was damaged. I opened the case and saw the 24-pin wasn’t firmly seated. All other components booted except the GPU, which stayed lit. I removed the GPU and installed my old 1070. The PC started, but the display to my main monitor didn’t receive a signal—only HDMI went to another monitor. Need advice.
Are you checking with a 1070 at the moment? Sometimes after updating HW my 1080 and the monitor stops talking over the DP. I fix it by connecting both HDMI and DP into the same monitor and GPU, using HDMI as the main source. Once in Windows, I switch to DP using the button on the screen, and it restores itself.
Are the DP and HDMI ports connected to both the GPU and the same monitor? When you switch back to HDMI, does it show up? In HDMI mode, if you adjust your display settings in Windows, does it recognize the DP as an additional monitor? If everything works smoothly there’s a chance it’s a "handshake" problem.
It might help to switch to a different cable. Make sure to turn off power and remove display cables from both the monitor and PC for about 20 to 30 minutes before retrying. Sometimes DP can be sensitive—edit: You could also uninstall your NVIDIA drivers using DDU and reinstall the newest ones. It’s possible configuration files for another GPU are interfering with the active GPU settings.
