Hello Everyone. I'm experiencing frequent frame drops whenever I enter a new town. My game drops from a stable 60fps to around 30 frames per second. I've checked that my GPU and CPU usage is about 30%. It's the same whether I'm using 1080p or 4K resolution. Could this be a problem with the game itself? Here are my PC specs: Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 3070, ASRock X470, 16GB RAM, 3600Mhz.

The issue lies with the game's design. ESO isn't built for efficient CPU use and depends heavily on a single processor. Even with a powerful setup, you'll experience frame drops during raids and in places like Vivec City. Reducing shadows and reflections, as well as decreasing the view distance (which are handled by the CPU at higher settings but the GPU at lower ones), can significantly boost performance without major quality loss.

It could be a bit too late, but try running in fullscreen with the view distance set to half. It doesn't really matter much, you'll still see key details. As others mentioned, this is usually an ESO problem.

Reducing shadows can cause unexpected bright spots and is quite bothersome.

Turn off shadows to reduce CPU load. Look for adjustments online—Reddit and ESO forums have many tips for optimal performance. I'm using ESO on a laptop with a 10870h processor and a 140w RTX 3070, achieving 144fps at the highest level of detail. Even with tweaks, lower settings stay above 100fps in urban scenes. Your hardware is capable of 60+ fps at 1080p, and both CPU and GPU usage remain minimal because the game engine runs on a single core while the rest stay idle. Graphics demand isn't high either.

Uncertain about the situation. It doesn’t seem like the top priority for ZOS RN at the moment. I believe they might eventually prioritize it once Microsoft takes ownership and provides more resources. Even though they upgraded their servers, there was no update about an improved engine. I hope so, because it would enable better multicore performance and enhanced GPU/CPU optimizations, allowing some CPU tasks to run on the GPU.
