I own an M15r7 and I need to configure a second display. Right now I don’t have a screen that supports HDMI 2.1, which means I won’t be using my dedicated GPU directly. That’s okay for me since I don’t intend to rely on the second screen as my primary display. It will only serve as a secondary one for light tasks, not for demanding activities like gaming. My main display is the laptop’s built-in screen, which is QHD and runs at 240Hz. I’m wondering if using a second screen will impact it negatively? Specifically, will it still be able to leverage advanced Optimus so the discreet GPU can connect directly to the laptop instead of going through the IGUI?

Additionally, could you clarify whether a HDMI 2.1 port is necessary for my GPU to connect directly? I’ve noticed that while my laptop has several display outputs, only HDMI 2.1 seems to be the one that allows direct connection to the discrete GPU. Even if it’s connected via HDMI, it won’t work unless it’s a 2.1 port.

This thread could be interesting. Each laptop manufacturer sets their own wiring preferences, which can lead to some ports being connected to the iGPU and others to the dGPU. In your case, the HDMI port is linked to the dGPU, so any display version below 2.1 will draw from it.

Umm... I don't think I should mark any answer as the best solution here. It's because I can handle that on my other question thread on the systems forum.
