Hello everyone, we’re a small video production studio with editing stations linked to our 10G NAS. A new team member has a 2021 ROG Zephyrus and wants to connect it to the server. From my research, it looks like a 10GB laptop adapter isn’t available except for Thunderbolt 3+. My Asus model has two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, so I’m curious if anyone has used some of the less common 5GB adapters and can share their experiences. Thanks in advance!

The only genuine model I’m familiar with is the 2.5Gig adapter from Framework Laptop USB C. 5 and 10 Gig Adapters, which I’d expect to be expensive and need some drivers.

Sadly most devices I've encountered use USB 3.1 with 5GBit speeds. After accounting for the extra overhead, I'm getting roughly 3.6Gbit per second, which remains superior to the 2.5Gbit minimum but possibly not justified by the price gap. From my perspective, even with a 10Gbit connection from a NAS, it still feels slower than native operation, especially when the local storage is just a SATA SSD.

Thanks! I've checked the 5GB options too. I just placed an order for around $80 and will monitor its performance.
