ECC RAM paired with Ryzen 3 4350G PRO and ASROCK B550 PRO 4
Hello, your project involves setting up a basic server for node-red, InfluxDB, and Grafana, with plans to add more advanced features later. You're aiming for a stable, affordable machine that can handle upgrades over five years. Since budget constraints limit you from high-end processors, you're considering a Ryzen 3. You're curious about using ECC RAM and whether standard DDR4 memory fits your needs. According to the ASROCK B550 Pro guide, Renoir APUs support ECC RAM, so a normal Kingston DDR4 PC2666 with 8GB ECC should work. The key is ensuring proper power delivery and cooling for continuous operation. Also, consider using solid-state storage for faster performance and reliability.
In my area, replacing XEON servers is quite challenging. I’m mainly able to find very old models that are over ten years old. This restricts my ability to upgrade later. However, I can easily obtain a Ryzen 3 4350G Pro, which is why I chose it. Please confirm if I’m misunderstanding—will booting without a GPU cause issues? I’m sure there’s a solution, but having a desktop might simplify troubleshooting. Unfortunately, I also struggle to find the ASROCK Rack server boards.
The asrock rack boards include a GPU built-in, which is what I was aiming for. However, for this particular application, I wouldn’t focus too much on ECC. It probably won’t matter much. Also consider the Intel 11400/10400—those could be a better fit here.
Memory performance remains highly dependable, ensuring months or years of stable operation. I’ll choose the i5 since it’s more affordable, includes an IGPU, and offers slightly better processing speed.
