Ecc memory paired with P55 chipset and Xeon X3450 processor
Hello, I just bought an Asus P7P55D-E LX motherboard with a P55 chipset and a Xeon x3450 CPU. I still have 16GB of 1600MHZ DDR3 from my previous system, but I noticed on the local market that 32GB of ECC DDR3 is available for under $40 in the US. I could easily sell my current RAM for double that amount here. If I install the Xeon, would it be possible to run ECC memory? If so, what challenges might arise and would it need to be un-buffered or registered differently? Another consideration is where ECC should be supported with this setup—should I buy two 16GB modules or four 8GB modules at similar prices? Would either option improve performance compared to the current setup (dual-channel CPU and board)? Anyone with experience in this area can share their insights. Cheers, CPU: [link] | Mobo: [link]
