I was planning to purchase two Xeon E5-2690 v4 processors for a virtualized gaming server. I came across this eBay listing, but it looks questionable. The images don’t match well, and the prices seem significantly lower than other offers. Could someone review it further? Thanks!

Isn't it clear that a 500MHz lower base and boost clock will make things run more slowly? I have no idea how much slower it will actually be.

It's a 3900x priced near $480, offering performance close to 80-90% of two real 2690 V4 chips. It avoids the need for dual coolers, a power supply with two EPS connectors, and an expensive motherboard.

I need Xeon for your virtualized gaming server setup. You're planning a multi-VM environment with six virtual machines, requiring dedicated cores per VM. I wouldn't choose Xeon for a single gaming PC in this scenario.

It doesn't make sense, it's a waste of effort. Having six monitors and everyone in the house using the same room for computers will lead to unnecessary expenses. You'll end up with multiple HDMI and USB cables, plus running several video cards on one server while only a few family members actually use the machines. If you proceed... the 3900x offers 12 cores and 24 threads, but splitting them across six VMs means each gets just 2 cores and 4 threads—very inefficient. These chips run at a low base frequency around 2 GHz, so you'd need to invest more to get better performance.

USB devices controlled via https://www.usb-over-ethernet.com/ (tested successfully). Thin clients can act as servers in your home, and the setup functions like a central LAN hub—easy to relocate thin clients for a room party.
