You're searching for a pay-once MMORPG without cash shops. I'm weighing Elder Scrolls Online against Guild Wars 2—whose is more enjoyable? Also, are there other suggestions you'd like to share? Thanks!

The game involves paying once, similar to other MMORPGs. It offers a fairly detailed system with a lot of depth. I spent some time playing it. Keep in mind it can be tricky to set up. It works well for short breaks, like waiting on public transport. I’ve used my phone for parts of it too. I’m stopping now but hope they keep adding content. I generally don’t enjoy combat in these games, though other aspects like crafting, fishing, and taming drew me in. The shop mainly sells cosmetic items, but you can earn currency to use them. It’s mostly a time investment.

Guild Wars 2 is a strategy game where you lead a guild in a fantasy world.

Guild Wars 2 has been my favorite MMO for years, but it definitely includes a shop: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gem_Store. The base game is actually free to play, though. You only have to pay for expansions, which contain all the max content. You can explore it without spending money and find out if it suits your interests.

I highly suggest playing Final Fantasy XIV—it's really impressive.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the ideas! I’m thinking about going with Diablo, checking if Blizzard has any deals, or maybe it’s just a rumor. I really want to play some grinding sessions. Thanks again!

A few ARPGs outperformed Diablo 2, with Path of Exile being a standout free option. I favor Divinity: Original Sin and Grim Dawn. Wolcen’s Lords of Mayhem (formerly Umbra) looks promising though it's early access. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is generating mixed Steam reviews, but early access is still progressing beyond Wolcen. The Torchlight titles and Victor Vran are not my favorites, though some enthusiasts enjoy them.
