Early Access greed in Baldur's Gate 3...
It wasn't what I expected to find so familiar here, but Lorian's release of Baldur's Gate 3 early access is a big deal. The price tag of $59.99 feels steep for the current state, especially since it's only a fraction of the game's cost. It seems like a smart move to wait until the full version arrives, or maybe we should aim for a more affordable approach—like splitting the cost across multiple acts. I'm worried about spending the entire price upfront without seeing enough value. It's frustrating when things don't meet the high standards I expect, especially compared to other titles like Marvel: Avengers.
In the end, I’d join a game in decent shape rather than settle for a rough early version. But if it’s just a small portion and it’s full of issues, that would be a different situation.
I got it. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but it’ll improve eventually. The 25 hours of content is a solid beginning. My main issue right now is the limited character creation—only two male voices and no variety beyond that. You can’t pick a tall guy over 5'10" or something like that. No cool 6'6 Barbarians with a dramatic rage scream!
The details are quite fine with plenty of choices for the face or hair. However, the body remains consistent—just one male and one female version. It seems to target a typical human average. The voice options are limited, with two male and two female selections, all fairly standard. Overall, it feels quite plain to me.
It's in early access since it's still being developed and they need feedback. Keep an eye out if you're interested in the complete version.
Exactly what they’re offering is not just any early access—it’s a deliberate move. They made it clear at this point they can only suggest it to those ready to try now or contribute to community input (a polite way of saying beta testing). To everyone else, it’s a warning: don’t expect anything special. The decision rests with you, so why waste time arguing? They might have kept it secret, but clearly there’s a group eager to claim it first, which could explain their motivation. Perhaps the standard price is set to keep others away.
I don't know, maybe I'm complaining because there is a product out there I want that is partially done but requiring me to pay full retail price for it I do infact want it that bad. Maybe you could see if that pertains to ANYTHING you could have possibly ever wanted/needed in your life, so you could understand what I'm talking about? I highly doubt a full retail price is a "deterrent mechanism" just to keep the nonhardcore fans out. They're not Maybach here, trying to be exclusive. That's easily the winner for the most ridiculous concept I've heard all week. But if you want to go with "charging full price for an Alpha/Beta" of the project... Then that new trend is 100% bullshit. Do you pay full price for other half-assed things in your house? Only going with 1/3 your cable stations? Your HVAC only cooling/heating 1/3 the rooms in your house? At what point have we just accepted that EA is now a full retail price situation? If you're okay with that, I have 1/3 of oceanfront property in Arizona I'd love to talk to you about. TLDR: I complain because I want something that I have to pay full price for but get less than 1/3. Make sense?
It really comes down to this—just focus on what you know, not emotions. I’m not sure that’s the right path, are you? You’re not making decisions based on facts, but feelings. That’s not a smart approach, is it? I also question whether you truly understood the situation. It’s all about being clear: as a buyer, you should judge the product yourself using the information you have. If it doesn’t meet your expectations, walk away. Don’t dwell on why you wanted it; accept that you didn’t push yourself to the limit. Keep it calm and logical. For BG3 right now, treat it like it’s still unavailable—just follow the market. Remember, the seller decides the price, not you. Usually you have little control, so move forward without getting stuck in the details.
