Even if he was tricked into receiving a fake key, it wouldn't work for GTA Online. It's an offline game only.

As far as I could tell, you got your answer. It's probably fine, but I don't think GTA Online will be online for the PC crowd untill the official launch. If there is any problem, the retailer will have them, not you. I can see how most people are sceptical of your claim, seeing how you apperantly got the copy two months early.

It’s unlikely you’ll be able to play online. If you own the game, the company can’t affect you personally—only the seller does. For a code, testing it is the best way to confirm functionality.
