Early 1800s: Limited GPU and CPU usage, possible constraints?
I've been playing a lot of Anno 1800 lately. The larger the cities become, the less FPS I get. It's never unplayable, but I'm guessing I'm hovering somewhere in the 40-50FPS range. The low-ish FPS isn't an issue tho, but nontheless I checked task manager, to see what is potentially causing these low frame rates. In the screenshot below you can see, that neither my GPU, CPU or even RAM is even close to being fully utilized. Especially the GPU with its 20% utilization is quite funny, yet it heats up to 83°C. Specs: Ryzen 2700 (cooled by an Noctua NH-D15) 2x 16GB 3000Mhz DDR4 HyperX Aegis Corsair MP300 1TB (OS), Samsung 850 Evo 1TB (Anno) EVGA GTX 1080 AsRock X570 Phatom Gaming 4 3440x1440 60Hz Corsair AX760i
In building games the older the save the more resorces you need to keep the frames up. With these games it is usually the CPU that gets hit the hardest. What I do to test this sort of thing is to add or remove an overclock on the CPU to see the difference in frames. Then I do the same with the GPU. I use MSi Afterburner so I can see any difference as I play and do screen shots so I have a record to compare. I ran a 3440 X 1440 60hz monitor with a GTX 1080 for a while and I had no problems keeping all frame over 60 so I would guess that it is your CPUs lack of frequancy. This will not show up in task manager. You can either upgrade or keep the save for when you upgrade and start a new save in the meantime. I have very old saves waiting for new hardware and that is the usual for me.
