I played Fallen Order once more to get myself ready for Survivor. One version is in Epic, the other in EA. I was using Epic, clicked to switch to EA through the game shortcut, but it showed an authentication failure. I opened the EA app and a big grey box appeared asking me to verify my email, which I didn’t recognize. I closed it and the PC started warning repeatedly about a virus being stopped. This lasted about a minute, after which the EA app simply closed.

I ran a full scan, checked for updates again, and opened EA separately—it worked fine.

Online discussions suggest a major disagreement about the loader, especially regarding its anti-cheat and background processes. Anyone have any insights on this?

The system reacts instantly by raising an alert about a virus being neutralized. Which antivirus software are you using?

Windows 11 Pro will need to document the build, probably H2xx. I’m not able to RDC into this PC right now either; there seems to be a change from the local account to the new Windows Hello setup.

In the Epic launcher, you might be used to buying games in one place, but they’re actually in another. When I tried to open a game, it showed an Epic icon but then launched EA to run it. I’m not sure how that process works with the executable.

Opening EA through the desktop shortcut didn’t cause any problems.

Another suggestion is to manually open all games through the Drm launchers after the PC boots and log into the Windows OS. I’m familiar with Steam, Rockstar titles, EA, and Ubisoft—most of the time they work this way. I’ve noticed that if an EA launcher is a virus, it often causes unusual behavior, like my CPU spiking to half capacity during EA downloads on a clean system. After the download, I saw no games left to download, so it’s unclear if that issue was resolved. I don’t use Epic, but the ones mentioned performed reliably and smoothly on my machine.

In my own case I typically don't have the launchers set to 'open with Windows' and in particular (when I do) have to go in and set Fortnite NOT to auto update. (I am aware that is on Epic) That is one fill up your drive fast type game. I also had to set Warthunder that way for Steam. As you mention yourself, all of a sudden your resources drop and the PC is running like crud to realize that is it updating a half dozen games or so.
