Dual PC Setup Questions
Dual PC Setup Questions
The optimal choice would depend on your setup and priorities. Streaming at 4K 240Hz from a second PC at 1080p 60/30Hz is challenging, especially with your current UHD60. Keeping the UHD60 would mean duplicating your display as a secondary monitor for the streaming machine, which might not be ideal. The Elgato 4K Pro lacks the capability to stream at 4K 240Hz while also playing at lower resolutions. For audio, using a virtual cable isn’t the best option due to quality concerns, and splitting audio between PCs or headphones isn’t straightforward with your current setup. Consider upgrading to a hardware solution that supports dual resolutions or explore alternative streaming methods if performance remains an issue.
It seems the purpose of using two computers is to offload some tasks from my main gaming machine. My secondary PC has an i7 7700k and a 1080 Ti, so it can handle demanding workloads like streaming 4K at 240Hz. I’m still open to your thoughts though—I’ll attempt to stream from the same setup and keep an eye on performance.
there's also the option to do a "fast" capture on the primary pc, and stream to the capture pc at something like 100Mbit, then encode it down with stream overlays and such on the secondary pc. that avoids the nature of trying to capture a high res high refresh rate signal in hardware. as for the audio side of things.. i've tried a lot of software things over the years, and i've sort of concluded they all suck.. if possible, do your audio in hardware. also, i'm very much a proponent of the dual pc streaming setup, because you can control the stream without having to tab out of the game.
