I believe it was the simple one; Jio is known for reliable services, which makes sense since it doesn’t require customers to contact their support team to understand the issues on the other end. When you choose English as the language, you shouldn’t have to clarify that with a service rep in Hindi.

They rely on external providers for their core routers, which means they don’t manage them directly.

An incident in 2016 involved the Indian division of the notorious anonymous hacking collective. They alleged data sharing with networks overseas, a claim Jio refuted. Since then, the situation has evolved significantly.

I'll move to the 200 Mbps unlimited plan for 30 USD once this current option expires.

If you're truly worried then a VPN is the best choice. Naturally you must rely on the VPN service to be honest. You might also consider adding tools like PiHole and/or DNS over TLS/HTTPS so your ISP can't track the domains you visit. Since many websites now use HTTPS, your ISP can't really monitor much unless you steer clear of their DNS servers. In short, they can always see the IP address you're using, but without DNS monitoring they won't know which domain you're accessing.

Recently the Indian government mandated data retention for five years. This means I have limited choices, mainly because the government can't control my information easily, especially given the ongoing issues of corruption in India. It's similar to China, but the democratic system helps push progress forward over time.

Yes, that's the problem I faced—I contacted them and they admitted to stealing my data.
