The issue with proving dual over single channel is that you're increasing RAM capacity by adding another chip, which also boosts performance. On PCs, more RAM is common, so it depends on your needs. Adding a tiny 0.1 second can make a difference.

If you look at games, for example, which in most cases won't even use much ram- there's still a fair jump in performance.

I bet I've seen a video somewhere where two 4 gig sticks are pitted against one 8 gig stick, maybe during a hardware unboxing. I'll let you know if I come across it. Edit: I found a clip—it's not a real review, just some side-by-side comparisons.
